In June of 2012, Hackensack University Health Network signed an affiliation agreement with Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, NJ, to collaborate and expand clinical programs and services, further improving the high-quality medical care Palisades provides patients in Hudson and southern Bergen counties. This partnership benefits patients by strengthening and supporting Palisades’ existing programs and brings additional state-of-the-art care and specialized diagnostic and medical treatments to the surrounding resident and business communities. The agreement fosters a closer working relationship between the medical staff and physicians at both hospitals, both complementing and supplementing the medical and surgical services already available at Palisades, a 202-bed hospital in Hudson County.

Palisades Medical Center is a vibrant and growing community medical center for the local, diverse neighborhoods of Hudson County. The dedication of our employees, physicians and community partners has transformed our hospital into a major regional health center that continues to evolve to meet the expanding healthcare needs of our growing communities. In this past year, Palisades Medical Center made significant strides in graduate medical education, clinical program development and building for the post-Healthcare Reform era.
A key aspect of our mission was to strategically align and forge a clinical relationship with the region’s leading healthcare provider, Hackensack University Health Network. Our relationship with Hackensack University Health Network has strengthened our existing and expanding programs with adherence to the best practices in medicine. By integrating our services with those of Hackensack University Health Network, we’re able to diagnose and treat more medical issues, right here in our community. Examples of the range of specialty services that we are able to offer our community through our Hackensack University Health Network affiliation include:
Neonatal Level 2 Nursery now provides 24/7 neonatology services and enables our Maternity Center to handle clinically complex cases; Pediatric Cardiology Ultrasound and Echocardiography; Peripheral Vascular Surgery; Bariatric Surgery; Thoracic Surgery; Neurosurgery
This year, we successfully developed and quickly expanded a Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program that is training physicians to become committed to providing superior medical care to the Hudson and southern Bergen County communities. Our GME curriculum emphasizes: the delivery of compassionate medical care, an active role in patient advocacy, a dedication to community service, a plan for lifelong learning, and a desire for the advancement of medical knowledge. The program has quickly grown to feature more than 70 students in family medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, traditional rotating internship, OB/GYN and dermatology.
Another milestone occurred in December when we officially began construction on our new on-campus Ambulatory Care Center. This 57,000-square-foot facility will expand our capabilities and provide our patients with convenient access to new, specialty care services that they would otherwise not find in our local communities. Services that will be featured in the new building will include a dialysis center, Hackensack University Medical Center’s John Theurer Cancer Center, Ambulatory Center for Endoscopy, cardiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics and multi-specialty physician practices from Hackensack University Medical Center. Construction is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2014.
Patient Care Units are where those in our care - their families, doctors, nurses and other caregivers - work collectively in the healing process. In December, our entire 4th Floor Patient Care Unit was renovated from floor-to-ceiling to optimize comfort, safety and care of our patients. The new unit features all new furnishings and nursing stations have also been redesigned and updated to strengthen patient monitoring.
In March 2013, we proudly opened our new Pediatrics Unit. The new unit provides our youngest patients and their families expanded amenities, four additional patient beds, a playroom, and a new security system. The unit also ensures a specialized, child-friendly environment with new, beautiful and comfortable rooms designed to enhance the healing process.
This past summer, Palisades Medical Center was recognized with the prestigious Modern Healthcare magazine’s “Best Places to Work in Healthcare” Award. Palisades Medical Center is one of just two organizations in New Jersey to be recognized by the magazine as an outstanding employer in the healthcare industry on a national level. This affirms what we have all known - that Palisades Medical Center is filled with talented and dedicated healthcare professionals that have built a culture where employees are always supported and engaged.
